DDF is an Atlanta-based non-profit (tax-exempt) 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Black Dance in American culture.

Our Mission is to celebrate, promote and preserve the legacy of Black dance by providing an annual festival in Atlanta, Georgia that showcases local and regional talent, presents master workshops/lecture demonstrations, concert performances, artist residencies and community outreach programs in collaboration with local, regional, national and international professional dance companies, organizations and individuals.

CLEO PARKER ROBINSON is founder, executive artistic director and choreographer of the 33-year old artistic institution, CLEO PARKER ROBINSON DANCE, based in Denver.  She is a master teacher/ choreographer and cultural ambassador who has taught and performed with her troupe in such diverse places as Iceland, Singapore, Hawaii, Nassau, Belize, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, throughout Europe, and on all four corners of the African continent. 

 

 

A resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Long is the author of The Black Tradition in American Dance (1989).  Renowned scholar of language and the arts, he is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Long attended Temple University, where he received his B.A. in 1947 and his M.A. in 1948.  He conducted post-graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania and at Oxford, England, and Paris, France.  From 1957 to 1958, he studied at the University of Paris on a Fullbright Scholarship.  He went on to earn his Ph.D. from the University of Poitiers in 1965.

 

 

 

 

DR. IANTHA TUCKER, a product of the Baltimore  City Public Schools received an R.N. from Harlem Hospital School of Nursing, A B.S. and M.S. from Morgan State College and an Ed.D.  In Dance Education  from New York University.  She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at Morgan State University and is the artistic director and principal choreographer for the Modern Dance Ensemble at Morgan.  She is also co-founder and the immediate Past President of the Black College Dance Exchange, the national coalition of dance companies from the Historically Black College and Universities.
