Proclaimer:
The mission of the Dynamic Dance Festival is to celebrate, promote and preserve Black dance. This year's festival is dedicated to the life mission of Miss Katherine Dunham featuring an unprecedented roster of certified Dunham Technique Instructors and proteges from around the globe. Miss Dunham's life inspired a huge family of supporters, educators, scholars and students.
Featured in this year's offering are balletic tributes by Ms. Cleo Parker Robinson -- one of Miss Dunham's proteges -- and salutes to
her former staff from the world renowned East St. Louis-based Performing Arts Training Center (PATC), as well as tributes from
certified instructors from the Detroit Dunham Legacy Project. The presentation of this event required a collective effort of spirit
and unity to bring this premiere festival to the Metropolitan Atanta dance community and visiting students/artists as well. A highlight of this event will be a salute to pioneers and legends during our Opening Gala Tribute Celebration. Atlanta is proud to be home to
Dr. Richard Long, internationally acclaimed writer, scholar and Black dance critic. Dr. Iantha Tucker, a former student of Dr. Long,
is one of the co-founders of the Black College Dance Exchange -- the first Black dance conference presented in the U.S.
Ms. Cleo Parker Robinson began teaching dance at age 15, and subsequently founded her own company at age 18.
When you look at the program, understand that we are fortunate to have these folk still with us today --
living, thriving and contributing to our dance community as a whole
DDF06: "Soul Culture" is a personal tribute to my lifelong mentor who made a difference in my life beginning with my adolescent years, in my hometown of Springfield, IL -- Jackie Thompson, Artistic Director/Dunham Protege, Thompson School of Dunham Technique. I was subsequently blessed to meet Cleo, in my later teen years, and take classes with her after I left my hometown and relocated to Denver, CO. Dunham Technique changed my life, and subsequently became a "Way of Life" for me and countless other individuals. Cleo Parker Robinson rekindled my passion for dance. Along the way, I have had the distinct honor to work with and present Katherine Dunham. Arthur Mitchell, Pearl Primus,
Dr. Richard Long, Tommy Gomez, Tommy Sutton, Doris Bennett-Glasper, Rod Rodgers, Joe Nash, Carmencita Romero, Baba Chuck Davis,

Join us as we "celebrate the dance" and incorporate idioms that embrace the wide spectrum of
